Conservancy Accepts New Conservation Easement in Bethel Township

Hawley, PA and Monticello, NY - The Delaware Highlands Conservancy recently accepted a new 45-acre conservation easement located in Bethel, Sullivan County, NY.  This property joins an adjacent 119-acre easement held by the Conservancy, helping to create an important protected greenway that provides habitat for a wide variety of plants and wildlife. This is the 66^th easement for the Conservancy, bringing our total protected acres in the Upper Delaware River region to 13,185.

The Conservancy used grant funding from the Common Waters Fund to cover the costs of establishing an easement on this valuable property. The Common Waters Fund helps landowners protect natural resources, clean water, and open spaces throughout the region.This funding option is available to forest landowners interested in preserving their land, even those who choose not to actively manage their forest resources.

Protecting this land with a conservation easement ensures its valuable scenic views, important agricultural farmland, and the water quality and tributaries of a substantial 54-acre wetland are preserved forever. This easement will continue to enhance the rural character of the town of Bethel and ensure future generations enjoy the land as it is today.
