From Seed to Sprout: Part 1 of the Growing Your Own Food Series
April 25 • 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Want to try growing your own food but don’t know where to start? Join full-time farmer Amy Erlwein at the Van Scott Nature Reserve where we will discuss everything you need to know about growing your own food from seeds!
In the first program of this education series, Amy will discuss the basics of planting your garden, starting with what to plant and when to plant it. She’ll discuss what soil, light, and water conditions different seeds need, and how to correctly plant and care for your seeds. Then, you’ll get to practice planting your own seeds in recycled containers and take them home to care for!
Amy has been farming in Sullivan County, NY for over 40 years and currently serves on the Delaware Highlands Conservancy’s Board of Directors. In this 3-part education series, Amy will discuss the process of how to grow your own food from seedlings all the way to harvest. Each program will focus on different aspects of gardening and discuss important processes that can help your garden succeed. We’ll discuss proper planting techniques, correct maintenance and care for your seeds, and finally, how to properly harvest and store your crops for both short and long term timeframes.
The program fee per workshop is $10 per family, or $25 for all three sessions of the Growing Your Own Food series. You may register for each program individually, or in advance for all three at the discounted rate.
