Timber Harvest Walk & Talk at Mongaup Sanctuary

Join Mongaup Sanctuary landowner Michael Smith and Nícolas Echevarría, forester with Lower Hudson Forestry Services, for a “Walk and Talk” through Mongaup Sanctuary to explore a recently completed winter timber harvest (January-March 2026). This program offers participants the opportunity to see firsthand how a working forest can be managed in alignment with long-term stewardship goals.
The harvest was guided by a 2024 Forest Management Plan developed by Lower Hudson Forestry Services and carried out to support a range of management objectives, including improving overall forest health, promoting native species and structural diversity, and enhancing wildlife habitat. Mongaup Sanctuary was conserved in 2010 by Michael Smith and his wife Linda Smith in partnership with Delaware Highlands Conservancy.
Parking will be coordinated upon arrival. Closed-toe shoes required. This event will take place rain or shine. Participants should anticipate walking 1-2 miles on uneven pathways. Mongaup Sanctuary is private property and must be respected; it is not open to the public outside of this event.
