The Delaware Highlands Conservancy announces that 49 acres located in Eldred, in the Town of Highland, Sullivan County, New York are now permanently protected with a conservation easement held by the Conservancy.

This forested property, owned by Victoria Kohler, is adjacent to the 1,036-acre Hickok Brook Multiple Use Area and helps to provide important wildlife habitat, protect water quality, and enhance scenic beauty for the surrounding region. A stream on the property is a tributary of Halfway Brook, which is a tributary of the Delaware River. The property is privately owned and is not open to the public. A conservation easement is a voluntary, legally binding agreement between a landowner and a land trust that permanently protects a property’s natural values while the landowner continues to own and manage the land, subject to the permitted uses detailed in the easement.

This project was supported with funding from the New York State Conservation Partnership Program (NYSCPP) and New York’s Environmental Protection Fund. The NYSCPP is administered by the Land Trust Alliance, in coordination with the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
